Dr. Tillich began his career with a Bachelor of Science in Biosystems Technology and Bioinformatics from the University of Applied Sciences Wildau (Germany) as well as a Master of Science from the same institution. Dr. Tillich then pursued and completed his PhD in Molecular Biology at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin with a focus on laboratory automation systems and its role in developing better algae strains for biofuel production. He authored several peer reviewed publications during his PhD work, and co-authored two papers with Dr. Katja Schulze, another co-founder of Oculyze, which centered on using automated image analysis for microscopic images. After this, Dr. Tillich worked as a postdoctoral research scientist within both Humboldt-Universität as well as at the TH Wildau. Driven by a firm belief in the enormous influence of technological innovation and its ability to simplify people’s lives, Dr. Tillich alongside his two co-founders Dr. Katja Schulze and Kilian Moser decided to launch Oculyze in 2015 which led to its incorporation a year later. Oculyze has since won a multitude of awards and recognition for its innovative approach towards simplifying the process of microscopic image analysis, seen clearly in the success of its ground breaking products ‘Better Brewing’ and ‘Fermentation Wine’ which have hundreds of customers in over 40 countries.
