• Integration of Nature-based Solutions: Incorporated time variation of natural ecosystems in operational planning and design of green chemical manufacturing. Synthesized data intensive computational physical models from multiple sources (e.g. EPA, iTree). Modeled long-term (20 years) growth dynamics and seasonal capacity variation of reforested and in Techno-Ecological Synergy (TES) problem.• Net-Positive Manufacturing: Incorporated hourly variation in forest capacity for a simultaneous design and operations problem. Large-scale multi-objective analysis was conducted to minimize economical production cost and societal health impact of air pollution. Integration with nature-based solution was found to provide net benefit to the society.• Multi-scale Model Predictive Control (MPC): Extended the MPC framework to satisfy constraints and objectives at multiple temporal resolutions for TES systems. The extension enables integration of homeostatic and homeorhetic systems and is based on time-series clustering and forecasting. It allows for explicit satisfaction of long-term storage and sustainability constraints.• Integrated Design and Control: Developed a Grey-box optimization algorithm for integrated design and operation problem. Created an iterative algorithm using constrained Bayesian optimization for determining optimal design. Implemented previously developed multi-scale MPC framework for optimal operation strategy.• Spatio-Temporal Reforestation for Air Quality Regulation: The developed integrated design and control algorithm was applied to spatial design and temporal operation of a reforestation based air quality regulation problem. The manufacturing operations were optimized to reduce spatial impacts on high density population areas.• Uncertainty in Circular LCA Design: Developed an algorithm to effectively propagate uncertainty arising from LCA in circular economy design problem.
