    • Led the design and development of a family of PCI-based standard (SMPTE NTSC, PAL, SECAM) and high-definition video processing products for use in commercial studio environments. The products include digitizers, high speed FPGA, switching power supplies, 1.5GB/sec coax interfaces via SDI, PLLs, clock synthesis and high impedance analog circuits. Analyzed effects of both radiated and conducted emissions on the products’ reliability. Troubleshot hardware, software and firmware, planned and carried this product line through functional tests and FCC certification to small volume production.• Invented the concept of an ultra low-power physics-based Silicon Neuron suitable for processing in both spiking and analog domains. The structure is conducive to multilayered arrangements with capacitively-coupled vertical interconnects. Received two US patents for this device.• Invented and performed the preliminary design of a Massively Interconnected NoDe - MIND. In a two liter volume, MIND integrates highly efficient processing, interconnect, cooling and power supply subsystems and allows packaging 2,000cm2 of silicon while safely dissipating over 10KW of heat. Internal nearest-neighbors communications are achieved via free-space optical links; external and far-neighbor communication utilizes fiberoptics. MIND’s topology emulates densely interconnected cortical circuits and is well suited for a compact supercomputing architecture. • Simulated a novel image processing algorithm including motion estimation and compensation. • Designed a mixed-mode CCD/CMOS-based Pattern Recognition Processor (PRP) based on the above algorithm and received two corresponding US Patents. PRP led to further development of IDS’ proprietary motion estimation algorithm for MPEG-2 video compression and resulted in the success of IDS’ spin-off company Ligos Technology. Developed PCI-based reference design kit to facilitate the characterization of the PRP chip.
