As a Nurse Practitioner in the Health Services at Skidmore College, I provide a full range of primary care to the student body. This includes care for minor trauma, respiratory illnesses, reproductive health care, mental health counseling, chronic illness management and health promotion/health maintenance for our young adult population. My work includes:-care to students by obtaining & evaluating patient history, performing a PE, ordering & evaluating laboratory tests & medications. Utilizing EMR effectively.- provide consultation, cooperative case management & professional leadership with Skidmore Health Services staff, Counseling Center & Student Affairs department-provide continuity of care to patients by coordinating health care needs through intervention, counseling & referral on & off campus.-promote health maintenance, promotion & self-advocacy by individualized teaching & providing information for self-care & behavioral change for students as appropriate. Identify & respond to students at risk for serious health conditions.-keep current with new developments in health care by attending professional conferences, monthly NP meetings, professional journals & participating with the Skidmore community in numerous campus settings/outreach.
