A filmmaker from an animation background experienced with commercial, narrative and event projects.From an early age, Valentino has always taken interest in the arts taking drawing classes since he was 4 years old. He is exposed to many classic films and animation since young thus forming a strong foundation in the arts of filmmaking.Upon graduating from high school, Valentino pursued an education in animation. In the diploma course, he learnt various aspects of animation filmmaking from figure sketching, storyboarding, visual development, 2D animation, 3D animation and visual effects.Towards finishing the course, Valentino gravitated towards camera operation work as he found himself preferring being on set to working from behind a screen. The school sent him on an internship in a video production house. During this period, Valentino learnt the ropes of video production such as camera and lens selection, frame rates, lighting and editing.Having acquired the knowledge and skills of both animation and video production, Valentino was selected into the media unit for the mandatory 22-month national service in Singapore Civil Defence Force. There were many internal events that needed coverage from inter-agency signings, minister visits, exercises and occasionally real-life fires and other incidents. Valentino honed his critical thinking and improvisational skills while under pressure.After completing the service term, Valentino was introduced to a higher budget commercial filmmaking when he was employed in a creative agency. He learnt the importance of each role and its function in a large-scale film production. On top of film production, Valentino also got a glimpse of marketing strategies while in the agency.Valentino later moved on to working in the media team of a holding company. He got to experience working in a corporate environment – learning how corporation functions, and how to service the needs of colleagues internally and external clients, while leading the team for video projects.Recently, Valentino found a sense of fulfilment in helping businesses and brands in their marketing efforts so he started creating corporate videos and online commercials in his own venture while continuing to learn new skills such as digital marketing to understand his clients’ needs and concerns, and screenwriting for narrative projects he hopes to pursue.
