Drug and Vaccine Development for Infectious Diseases and Molecular diagnostics
The Laboratory for Pathogenesis of Clinical Drug Resistance and Persistence (http://tuberculosis.sdsu.edu/) was created through funding from NIH in July 2013 to study the pathogenesis of genetic mechanisms of antibiotic resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis). In July 2018, we received funding through a competitive renewal process. This marks ten years of continuous funding for our core project by NIAID. The new funding expands the scope of the project to studying the genetic dark matter in M. tuberculosis, epigenetic effects through DNA methylation, and systems biology/medicine through metabolic and regulatory modeling.
