About Valen Boyd

I am currently a PhD candidate and lecturer at Ivey Business School. My research interests include innovation, sustainability, systems thinking, and entrepreneurship. My doctoral studies are supported by the Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship (SSHRC). Previously, I was an Associate Director at BDC Capital, the investment arm of the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC). BDC is Canada’s bank for entrepreneurs. While at BDC, I participated in multiple debt, subordinated debt, and quasi-equity transactions and helped dozens of entrepreneurs finance and grow their businesses. I was also a member of BDC’s B Corp council, a reviewer for MaRS' Social Venture Exchange and a mentor for Rotman Business School’s Rise Asset Development.
