I study the representation of space in autonomous moving robots through sensorimotor perception without any prior assumption on the robot configuration and perceived environment. The goal is to apply the theory of "sensorimotor dependencies" developed by Kevin O'Regan (1992, 2001) in a robotic environment with learning abilities. This theory is based on the principle that an agent should be able to learn its interaction with the world uniquely through the so-called sensorimotor signals, in a robotic context : signals from command and sensors, without knowledge on the environment and its kinematic structure. The theory and its mathematical formalization by Philipona (2003) rely on an intuition from Henri Poincaré (1895) for the estimation of the dimension of the geometrical space where a simulated agent can move and sense. Therefore this work should lead to the production of autonomous systems that can adapt to sparsely modeled environments as in spatial robotics, uneven ground but also human to robot interaction.Poincaré, H.
