After the graduation with Magna cum Laude from the University of Pavia (I) in 1995, I was involved in immunohaematological field research at the Dept. of Surgery of the University of Insubria, Varese (I), the Dept. of Biotechnology (DIBIT), S. Raffaele Hospital, Milan (I), the Dept. of Biochemistry, ETH-Z, Zürich (CH) and the Lab. of Experimental Haematology, Inselsspital, Bern (CH). In 2002, I moved to Canton Ticino (Switzerland), where I trained in Internal Medicine and in Medical Oncology.Since 2014, after having developed, together with the Cantonal Tumor Registry, an Oncosuisse sponsored quality project on clinical cancer care (Project QC3, see main publications section), I have been dealing with quality in healthcare, designing and implementing innovative clinical projects and indicators, based on international guidelines, capable of increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of medical treatments and procedures inside the hospitals. I have worked alongside IT, designing and managing clinical databases and registries for hospitals, in view of obtaining international quality certifications in oncology (EUSOMA; DKG) and surgery (AQC/HSM) and acting also as a facilitator and supervisor.Since 2017, in the field of Tobaccology, I help clinics and hospitals to become "smoke-free" healthcare facilities, guiding them in the implementation of international standards, in view of obtaining national and/or international certifications. I am part of the FTGS (Forum Tabakprävention in Gesundheitinstitutionen Schweiz) National Board and Associate Member of GNTH (The Global Network for Tobacco Free Healthcare Services). I actively collaborate within GNTH as Senior Member of the Gold Process International Jury. In autumn 2021, I was called as Expert Medical Advisor for the new GNTH strategy. I am Associate Member of the ENSP (European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention) and Member of ATTUD (Association for the Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependence).As a tobaccologist I have attended courses and obtained national and international certifications. I hold basic courses in tobaccology for staff training in healthcare facilities as well as advanced courses and clinical supervision for Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Tobaccology at the Univ. of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI). I carry out clinical supervision for qualified tobaccologists and, obviously, clinical consultancies (also in video consultancy) for the patients who want to follow a path to quit smoking and get rid of nicotine.
