I served 12 years in the U.S. Army, ten of those years in leadership roles of increasing responsibility. Six years in combat arms serving tours in S. Korea, Kosovo, and Afghanistan; and six years as a radar repair technician serving two tours in Iraq. While in the Army I completed basic and advanced leadership courses. I currently serve in the Washington Army National Guard, splitting my time between managing my unit’s logistics program and providing intelligence analyst support. I have provided analyst support for several large scale multinational training exercises including: with the Singapore army in 2014, with the Australian and S. Korean armed forces in 2015 and in 2016 an exercise with the Indonesian military. In addition to my daily managerial role at work I also provide support to two employee resource groups. I’m a founding board member of Military & Veterans at the Port and also the president of the Port of Seattle chapter of the National Management Association, and occasionally teach the Institute of Certified Professional Managers' Foundations of Management certificate course. I also enjoy volunteering in my community and being engaged in state, county and city politics. I am a commissioner on the City of Tacoma’s Human Services Commission. One of my personal goals is to devote more time to volunteering with organizations that support veterans and their families. I've volunteered at hiring events, been a panelist at hiring summits, and spoken at transition classes and training seminars. I would like to be able to be able to dedicate more time to activities along these lines. I also plan on going back to school for an MBA within the next two years.
