    Effective April 1, 2013, the Evelyn Frank Legal Resources Program (EFLRP) – with all seven of its full-time staff – is moving to the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG). ( Selfhelp, EFLRP, and NYLAG leadership have worked together to ensure that Selfhelp’s vulnerable elderly clients will continue to benefit from the outstanding work of EFLRP. While the organizational transfer will take place on April 1, 2013, all EFLRP staff will remain located at their current Selfhelp offices for a number of months while space is prepared at NYLAG’s office. While this is a major restructuring, many things will not change. The Evelyn Frank Legal Resources Program will remaining intact as a unit and continue to honor the memory of Evelyn Frank, a passionate legal services lawyer who advocated for access to Medicaid for low-income people in California, and who died at too young an age. Her father, the late Hans Frank, established the program in her memory at Selfhelp. A survivor of the Holocaust, Hans Frank was a leader on the Boards of both Selfhelp and NYLAG.At NYLAG, EFLRP will continue to --o Provide direct legal representation and advice to clients of Selfhelp’s many community-based programs as well as other New Yorkers who rely on Medicaid or Medicare;o Conduct legal education programs for legal, social work, health care and other professionals from throughout New York City, including Selfhelp’s many social work staff; o Provide technical assistance and consultation to the large community of New York professionals who assist and advocate for consumers who need Medicaid and long-term care services; o Maintain the NYHealthAccess.org website, along with its partners at The Legal Aid Society and Empire Justice Center; ando Voice the concerns of consumers in advocating for policies that protect their rights as new models of care are implemented.

    In non-profit formed in 1937 to help refugees from Nazi Germany, advocated for Holocaust survivors and seniors of other backgrounds who need access to health insurance, long term care, and income assistance. During 11 years at Selfhelp, first as a staff attorney then as Director, worked with Development staff to raise funds to expand the program from one attorney to a staff of seven full-time advocates, including four lawyers and three para-professionals Developed expansive legal education program in which we conducted over 50 programs each year, with over 13,000 attendees in 11 years, with emphasis on the legal rights to health care and long-term care for low income people.
