I am a Doctor in Social Anthropology, I achieved my PhD at the University of Sussex in May 2018. I have experience both in academia and development organizations. I believe that cooperation between NGOs and social scientists is crucial in challenging established points of view and producing groundbreaking knowledge and innovative practices. This belief oriented most of my experiences across these two sectors. Since 2022, I have been working as a Research Manager for the Italian NGO ACRA, following projects about food security, conflict prevention and women empowerment. I also recently finalized a research funded by Koç University Vehbi Koç Ankara Research Center (VEKAM), focused on networks of solidarity in the food chain of Ankara. Previously, I worked as an Assistant Professor at the Ankara Social Science University, teaching in the Department of African Studies and as an Associate Tutor at the University of Sussex, teaching Anthropology and Development Studies in undergraduate students’ seminars. I worked on my PhD between October 2013 and May 2018 under the supervision of Prof. Elizabeth Harrison and Prof. Evan Killick. My research was part of the broader “Shadows of Slavery in West Africa and Beyond. A Historical Anthropology” (SWAB) project, funded by the European Research Council (ERC – Grant agreement no. 313737) and implemented by the University of Milan – Bicocca. Before starting the Ph.D. program, I achieved an MA in Anthropology at the University of Milan-Bicocca in 2009, with a dissertation on the role of traditional authorities in development projects in the district of Sefwi Wiawso, Ghana; and an MSc in Anthropology and Development at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2012, with a dissertation on the capacity of peasants to affect rural development policies in Korhogo district, Ivory Coast. My main research interests are discriminations based on identity and their impacts on political life; local civil society and its capacity to empower marginal or discriminated social groups; grassroots associations and solidarity economy in food chains. I mainly worked in Sahelian Africa, but I also had a one-year research experience in Turkey. I am mother tongue Italian, I am fluent in English and French and have basic knowledge of Spanish and Turkish. I am looking for long-term employment as a researcher or research manager, preferably in development-oriented projects in academia or NGOs, where I can use my skills in data analysis and qualitative research.
