Immigration Specialist, Supervisor
Current• Advise Managers, Recruiters, and candidates on the appropriate US visa types• Liaise with Immigration Law firms• Ensure compliance, timely filing, and accurate record keeping• Work with employees, managers, and HR on resolving employees’ visa and status related problems and questions• Prepare and submit petitions and applications on behalf of Fermilab to enable employment of non-U.S. employees, including J-1, H-1B, TN, PERM, I-140, and AOS. Work with outside legal counsel on matters requiring a legal opinion or work overflow• Create policies and procedures (wrote the laboratory's Expatriate Assignment Policy, as well as most group-specific policies and procedures)• Create educational materials for targeted and lab-wide presentations• Administer and resolve billing issues. Approve vendor invoices• Train staff on various immigration filings, review their work for accuracy and act as an SME on all immigration matters• Maintain knowledge of changing U.S. visa law and regulations; advise Laboratory management on visa issues which may affect Laboratory interests; ensure that policies and procedures reflect current visa law, regulations, and processing requirements• Research and distribute guidance material on U.S. visa and foreign visa and travel topics; provide timely and relevant U.S. visa related information to managers, employees, and visitors via individual contact, periodic lectures and meetings, and revisions to the Visa Office webpage• Maintain the Visa Office webpage to reflect current information, critical announcements, or procedural changes by relevant government agencies; maintain up-to-date knowledge of such news or changes, and identify and research corollary issues proactively• Workday, Docketwise, LawLogix, MS Suite
