As one of the organization's first 3 directors, I led growth and development for this startup 501c4 nonprofit whose aim was to reclaim political power by harnessing the voices and influence of 1% of the voting public in a subscription-based model that focused on policy issues where a supermajority of Americans agree.

As VP Sales for this startup challenger paint brand, I managed project set up and implementation on HomeDepot.com (first paint company to sell liquid paint on Home Depot’s website). Our team over-achieved sales revenue targets in a Home Depot test market (during a recession). I led the design and implementation of national sales strategies across diverse retail channels. Responsibilities included: managing and restructuring the sales department, overseeing retailer and distributor relations, customer service, and new business development. As a member of the executive team, I reported to the President/CEO & Board of Directors and worked in direct partnership with our private equity company, Solera, to support company growth in operational and human resource roles. I regularly served as a company spokesperson on panel discussions and in local press.

After a successful career in advertising sales, my passion for responsible business led me to create a sustainability program that implemented sustainable business practices across seven Bay Area radio stations operations. I obtained support from leadership to lead the development of the program, as long as I could maintain my sales perfomance.My work consisted of authoring our sustainability business plan, seeking external support from industry experts, engaging the executive team in the plan's design and implementation, and submitting it to our EVP to request nationwide compliance. Throughout the development of the program, I oversaw building efficiency improvements; changed procurement guidelines; implemented sustainable practices and employee engagement; managed creative on-air and online content development; designed customized marketing programs, and oversaw sustainability-related sales.

In this position, I motivated and inspired national reps across Top 10 US markets to sell the nation's first LGBT-targeted Bay Area radio station with no Arbitron ratings to large national advertisers. Our team created and implemented successful sales incentive programs nationally. We developed strong, trusting client relationships to secure an unfair share of business in one of the country's most competitive radio markets. Our team consistently increased share performance while achieving or exceeding budgets.

National radio sales was an incredibly fast paced work environment where each day could include a high volume of negotiations. Our primary role was as a broker between our client radio stations (well over 1,000) and large national advertisers. A typical day may include up to 50 or more agency and radio station negotiations, where the goal is to find common ground between two parties with typically opposite goals.I was originally hired as a Sales Assistant in 1993 and promoted to Sales Associate after 3 months (a job I created for myself and has since left a legacy for entry level employees to advance in the organization). I was then promoted to Account Executive 3 months later, and transferred to LA to sell in the company's 2nd largest office. In 1996, promoted to SF Sales Manager where I managed a team of two. In 1998, I was promoted to NY Sales Manager, where I was responsible for a team of 16 reps and helped run the company's largest office (65 million in annual revenue).
