I have worked, lived, or studied in India, Denmark, Portugal, Canada, and Poland. My educational background is finance and economics, but for the passed 3 1/2 years I have worked as a software instructor and an IT implementation consultant. Although it is a Investment management software, which means having a grasp of accounting, financial instruments and markets, etc. is very useful. I believe that the fundamental qualities of a good education are transferable across industries. For example I knew some SQL and R basics when I took over teaching a course using XML and xslt, but it didn't take long to learn it. Essentially I see new challenges as a form of problem solving. I am very interested in problem solving. Sometimes it is just about making it work and sometimes it is about building something robust. When I teach connectivity for software I started with focusing on how to build an interface, but the more I understood the topic the more I put an emphasis on good design. Is it scalable, performant, and maintainable. This is generalizable to all types of problems whether it's building a financial model or coming up with a new drug in the pharma industry.
