Hardware Team Lead, ResearcherRutgers University May 2017 - Sep 2018New Brunswick, Nj, UsRutgers is among the top 100 research universities in the world, innovating in everything from DARPA-funded underwater drones to the food science that created the Beyond Burger. In 2016, Rutgers began developing a low-cost bi-pedal humanoid robot that can effectively operate in environments designed for humans. The project was led by Timothy Yong under the direction of Professor Kang Li. By utilizing sensor fusion, SLAM, and AI, the team's goal was to publish a design that would be financially viable for nearly any commercial and consumer applications. Vallab joined the team through the Aresty Research Program as the only paid undergraduate researcher, securing a single spot against hundreds of applicants. Within months, he demonstrated his ability to design thoughtfully, prototype quickly, and juggle development priorities. Three months after joining, he was promoted to Hardware Lead, the only undergraduate researcher managing a team of entirely graduate students. -
Director Of Strategy & GrowthRutgers Ieee May 2017 - May 2018Piscataway, Nj, UsRutgers IEEE, backed by the Rutgers Engineering School and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, was a prominent student organization with over 200 members when Vallab joined, though it had stagnated after years of moderate growth. During his year-long tenure, Vallab revitalized the organization by unifying its brand identity with a new logo, style guide, and SOPs, and setting ambitious membership targets. Through targeted promotional campaigns, he exceeded these targets, inspiring other student organizations to copy his tactics. He also reorganized operations with a matrix management structure, integrated two independent clubs, N2E Coding and Electronics, under the Rutgers IEEE umbrella, and launched a program for IEEE members to host interactive robotics workshops in underprivileged high schools to promote STEM. As a result, Rutgers IEEE ended the year with 450 active members, double the number of divisions, and accolades from the Engineering Governing Council, establishing it as one of the largest and most active organizations at Rutgers. -

Projects included building community gardens and orchards, hosting tree giveaways and beach cleanups, and organizing civil disobedience campaigns, public pressure campaigns, and the largest climate march in history. In 2018, the organization split into several smaller member organizations operating independently in their respective regions.
