Developed LC-MS/MS methods for the characterisation of those metabolites generated during the initial steps of catabolism of cholesterol by Mycobacterium smegmatis.Identified changes in the chemical composition of biopolymers derived from genetic modifications of Pseudomonas Putida by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) and characterised the new monomers added to the bioplastic. Evaluated the impact on the plastic's physical and chemical properties. Major involvement in the project “Sustainable Microbial and Biocatalytic Production of Advanced Functional Materials (BIOPRODUCTION)” (NMP2-CT-2007-026515) as communication coordinator between the partners involved in the chemical characterisation of new biopolymers. Other tasks included: management of the chemical laboratory, outsourcing and evaluation of new capabilities for the chemical department, assistance to the LC and GC laboratory services.

The isolated oligosaccharide fraction was applied to assess prebiotic properties of honey, the presence of sweeteners and the origin. Contact with experienced researchers from outside my centre and got invited to work at Wageningen University (The Netherlands) for eight months under Dr Schols' supervision.
