Highly analytical Biologist in Training (Alberta Society of Professional Biologists member #6944) with experience on research proposals, data collection and reports.Here are a few examples of my work:- After collecting data on several scientific articles, I concluded that patients with Major Depressive Disorder have lower levels of Firmicutes. There is a knowledge gap on the gut-brain axis, so I proposed researching on the mechanism for Firmicutes to control this mental disorder. Since Firmicutes play a role on breaking down carbohydrates into SCFAs, I proposed looking at how levels of specific hormones (e.g. GABA or PPY) vary when there are less SCFAs, as these variations can cause a different response in the brain. Further research on encephalobiotics could include increasing the levels of Firmicutes on patients with MDD.- Babies born under cesarean-section are more likely of developing asthma on early years. Literature revealed that the fungi Malassezia is present on very different levels on babies born under c-section versus natural birth. As a team, we proposed a metabolomics process to see if Malassezia could produce proteins that enhance or repress asthma, and this was a somehow new approach as the mycobiome is less studied than the microbiome, while it could have similar effects on the human body.Additionally, I love travelling, even more to beach destinations!
