Valter Vilkko is a gender/UNSCR 1325 Strategist with the assignment to strengthen the implementation of UNSCR 1325 and gender perspectives in the Swedish Armed Forces. In his other current role he is the Advocacy and Communications Advisor at 1325 Policy Group, a Swedish non-governmental organization working for the full implementation of UNSCR 1325 and the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda. He also has expertise in the field of how to implement UNSCR 1325 in Security Sector Reform (SSR) and with developing strategies and tools for implementation in the security sector.Previously, Mr. Vilkko was the Communications Officer at Operation 1325. He also has experience from the Life & Peace Institute (LPI) in Uppsala, Sweden, where he worked with advocacy and LPI’s Sudan programme. His field experience includes work in Sudan, South Sudan, Libya and Kenya. He holds two Master's degrees from Uppsala University, one in Peace and Conflict Studies, and one in Journalism.
