Clients sign up for a regular stormwater infrastructure inspection program, and begin to receive reports on the state of their system sealed by me, a professional engineer. With the giant oil boom happening, the local economy is driving large amounts of development both public and private. My role at Contech is to manage an active team of Stormwater Consultants as we try to capture as much of this business as possible. Whether the development is public or private, there are sure to be environmental regulations and permits that must be satisfied. Contech recently went through a reorganization that called for a new role within the company that focused primarily on our stormwater quality product line. As a Stormwater Consultant, I have several responsibilities. A large portion of my time is spent focusing on regulatory agency’s including the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the Environmental Protection Agency, and several local river authorities. With these groups I try to drive a sensible, economically viable approach to Low Impact Development and water quality. From there, I try to be a voice for the regulatory community twithin the specifying community. Civil Engineers often have questions concerning viability and implementation of water quality features. As a licensed Civil Engineer, I provide a tremendous value to my customers in explaining water quality features and how they can be approached on the standard project. Finally, I spend the last part of my time working with contractors. No matter how great the design is, it is worthless if it cannot be constructed. Spending time with contractors working on pricing estimates and installation question is the final piece of my role at Contech.

At Contech, my task is to introduce technology to the local civil engineering community that will assist them in meeting specific site requirements. This technology can center around a wide scope of applications including structures, drainage, and storm water pollution control.

I assist geotechnical and civil engineers in implementing Tensar geogrids in pavement designs in my territory of responsibility, Southern Texas.

During this period, I was responsible for designing hydraulic devices that clean stormwater for my territories of responsibility. They were Western New York and Western Canada. The experience was richly rewarding and it led to the current position I hold with Contech.
