We specialised in two areas: - software development in communication, 3D visualisation, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR); and - construction design and construction drafting for shop fit-outs Under my guidance, DRL experienced exceptional growth and we now have a team of 10 working in 4 offices in Wellington, Auckland (NZ), Sydney (Australia) and Hanoi (Vietnam). As a freelancing Project Manager/Project Director, I have worked in various environments and projects. I like being a freelancer as it offers me the necessary freedom to learn and enjoy those learning opportunities. Much of my experience as a freelancing Project Manager was acquired in Australia. Due to the fact that I work in a small and supportive team of construction professionals, I have worked on many interesting projects, including: - Mapping the economic value of construction & demolition waste minimisation in NZ - Examining the effects of urban intensification in Auckland on the construction industry - Exploring opportunities to use innovative timber-based products to reduce construction waste in NZ - Examining labour productivity in NZ constructionConsequently, I have acquired a range of useful skills, including: - Ability to use and develop economic models to represent and predict economic behaviours. Economic tools that I am proficient in include: * Net Present Value (NPV) analysis * Real Options Analysis (ROA) * Pay-back-period (PBP) analysis & * Internal Rate of Return (IRR) analysis - Ability to use specialist software including: * UrbanSim (urban simulation/modelling software) * MATSim (agent-based traffic modelling software) * GIS (mapping software) & * Sanna (Multi criteria decision making software)

I have been teaching at the University of Auckland (UoA) for a long time. From 2004 to 2007 I worked as a Maths tutor. And since 2009 that I have started to focused on this job professionally. In my role at UoA, I help to teach Engineering students the essence of Project Management and Systems Engineering. A lot of what I teach is based on my own experiences as a professional Project Manager. As such, I believe my students get a lot out of my teaching.My responsibilities at UoA include: - Preparing course materials - Delivering teaching materials to students - Encouraging and helping students to enhance their professional communication skills - Fostering and teaching Systems thinking to problem solving - Fostering and teaching student essential project management skills

Intersek Pty Ltd was a small boutique catering company based in Brisbane, Australia. We focused on delivering added values to our clients through our work. I was involved with Intersek in 2009-2010 as a Project Director. Our aim was to provide our NZ clients with experienced Australian chefs for the 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC). I was instrumental in developing and fostering relationships with our NZ clients, including Dawsons Catering, Michael O'Brien, Sky City and V Base. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, Intersek was de-listed right before the RWC. Consequently we could not execute this project. Nevertheless, we have learnt a great deal from this project, including: - Not to put all your eggs in one basket - Never to let your emotion get a better of you; and - Always trust your instinct

This period is my first experience as a freelancer. It is the most enjoyable part of my career, as I was free and hungry for knowledge and experience.I worked 1) as a casual worker at the Gold Coast Airport to earn a stable wage for living and 2) as a freelancing Financial Engineer to earn extra money and experience. My business partner Jesse William and I established an operation on the Gold Coast to 1) trade Contract for Difference (CFD) currency and financial indices; and 2) exchange trading systems with like-minded individuals. A lot of what we did was analysis of market trends using a combination of fundamental and technical analysis tools. Our trading systems were fairly simple and mechanical in nature. As such, it is easy to use.Although we did not have a client base per se, the network that we established was vast, involving people from different background and experiences. I sold my share of this venture in late 2008 to travel to Perth; and in late 2009 Jesse also gave up the business to focus on his real estate aspiration. However, we learnt a lot from this interesting ventures. Some lessons we learnt was: - You only know who you are when put under life-and-death situations - When you know yourself, make sure you stay true to it - Money is not everything; it is mateship that matters most - Do not get greedy when you see money; it comes and it will go - It is worth exchange ideas with others, as (some of) their views can complement yoursThese lessons have had profound effects on my career as a professional Project Manager. And I forever thank myself for giving it a go.
