Welcome & Outreach Center

Campus-Wide Tutoring• Develop and promote marketing materials to inform current students about our free tutoring services through campus department faculty and staff, classroom visits and presentations, and social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, & Youtube)• Facilitate tutor training on a monthly basis to reinforce knowledge of tutor practices, relationship building, and outreach strategies• Co-supervise and monitor 30+ tutors throughout the semester and access their ability to tutor independently and confidently in their subject

• Conduct one-on-one tutoring sessions in the use of APA, research techniques, and content comprehension for various psychology courses: General Psychology, Lifespan Development, Child Development, Human Sexuality, and Personality & Growth• Build trust and rapport with students through drop-ins and appointments and averaging 200+ student contacts each semester

• Assist with 2-3 sections each semester in ENGL1AX: Intensive Reading and Composition and ENGL142B: Writing Expository in different learning communities: Gateway to College, Puente, First Year Experience - FYE, & Unlimited Possibilities - UP• Work alongside college course instructors each semester to identify students at-risk of failing and develop individualized tutoring lessons, resulting in students passing the course with a C or better • Guide students through the process of essay writing, MLA format, and research strategies in a simplified approach to build a solid and strong foundation in their academic writing • Co-facilitate classroom discussions on assigned readings and essay prompts to clarify understanding and challenge students to think deeply about social issues and its impacts• Cultivate literary skills in students to promote critical thinking, independent learning, and personal academic growth

• Analyzed the Board’s security systems, including processing data sharing agreements and account requests• Ensured necessary information is documented for data access by accounts under FISMA compliance• Validated account information on a quarterly basis• Resolved any interruptions to the request’s workflow with stakeholders • Produced a 40 page step-by-step user guide on how to process non-user accounts and AD groups• Assisted with usability tests and synthesized findings of participant feedback and interactions into a report

• Graded 30-100 essays a month based on the SAT scoring rubric in a timely manner• Provided constructive feedback for students while highlighting their strengths

• Created graphics for Transfer Student Center events using Adobe Illustrator and publicized them on social media• Composed a bi-monthly newsletter informing over 5,500 transfer students about events, resources, and opportunities available on campus

• Responded to a high volume of telephone and walk-in inquiries with friendliness and professionalism, referring transfer students to appropriate resources• Compiled a document of frequently asked questions and answers with customer-friendly language for peer advocates to refer to

• Tutored groups of 5-7 low-income students in SAT writing, reading, and math using the mentor handbook and curriculum• Guided students through the college admissions process and encouraged them to apply for college
