I started my career with a paralegal certificate from the Skyline College. My training there helped me secure my first position in a medium sized law-firm practicing insurance defense. The best part about that position was helping new attorneys navigate and understand the practical aspects of their day-to-day work. I didn't know it at the time, but that experience fostered my love of collaboration, teaching, and mentorship. From there, I went on to manage a law office/executive suite, specializing in civil litigation and consumer class actions for 10+ years. Throughout my legal career, I spent time formatting, editing, and proofreading documents. It was always one of my favorite aspects of the job. While serving in these two roles, I slowly worked my way through higher education at San Francisco State. First receiving a Bachelor of Art's Degree in English Literature and later a Master of Art's in English Composition and a Certificate in Post-Secondary Reading. That is where when my teaching career began. For several years, I served in both roles, one in the legal industry and one in the classroom, each requiring a tremendous amount of reading, writing, synthesizing, providing feedback, proofreading, and managing people and our time. In recent years, I have focused primarily on teaching and becoming a parent. I have taught a range of writing courses from ten units below transfer level/first year to upper division courses like Business Communication and Introduction to Professional Writing & Rhetoric. Since 2018, I have had the pleasure of combining my love of teaching and experience as a paralegal to the paralegal department at Canada College where I teach Introduction to the Legal System, Legal Ethics, and Law Office Management.
