Postdoctoral Fellow - Department Of Molecular, Cellular, And Developmental Biology
Investigating developmental cellular and molecular mechanisms driving formation of wiring between neurons in a perception and learning center of the Drosophila melanogaster brain.• Wrote and succesfully won an HHMI Hanna H. Gray Fellowship grant (2020)• Wrote and succesfully won a University of Michigan Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award (IRACDA) Fellowship grant (2019, K12-GM111725)• Published 1 review article• Designed and taught lectures at Wayne County Community College, Henry Ford College, and University of Michigan• Trained, mentored, and supervised Ph.D. and undergraduate students, as well as a technician.
Graduate Student Researcher - Department Of Neurobiology
Investigated mechanisms of developmental cell death of retinal astrocytes in vivo in the lab of Dr. Jeremy Kay, PhD (Duke Eye Center). Acquired significant knowledge regarding retinal development, glial biology and immunology, as well as broad neuroscience knowledge through graduate level coursework. My thesis work may inform our understanding of the role of immune cells in nervous system tissue development as well as provide insights as to mechanisms driving diseases such as Retinopathy of Prematurity, a condition which arises in part due to disruptions in the control of cell number in premature infants chronically exposed to hyperoxic conditions.• Wrote and submitted grant applications; succesfully secured an NSF GRFP grant.• Published research findings in peer-reviewed journals. • Presented research findings at scientific conferences and lectures. • Completed a Certificate in College Teaching. • Designed and taught an undergraduate level biology course. • Served as Teaching Assistant (TA) to a graduate level neurobiology course. • Trained, mentored, and supervised Ph.D., undergraduate, and high school students.• Designed and presented several graduate level professional development workshops. • Reviewed papers for publication in journals such as the Journal of Neuroscience and the Journal of Histochemistry & Cytochemistry.
Research Assistant, Eye Research Institute
Assisted with research to decipher how dopamine signaling is regulated in healthy retinas and how its regulation is altered in disease states such as Retinopathy of Prematurity. Lab: Dr. Dao-Qi Zhang.
Research Assistant, Department Of Physics
Developed analytical solutions to the Bidomain Mechanical Model in an effort to devise a theoretical representation of the mechanical behavior of cardiac tissue. Lab: Dr. Brad Roth. • Published research findings in a peer-reviewed journal. • Presented research findings at scientific conferences and lectures, nationally and internationally.
Research Assistant, Department Of Neurology
Assisted with experiments aimed at understanding the dynamic interactions between neuronal axons and oligodendrocytes during recovery from stroke. Lab: Dr. Michael Chopp.
