Vanessa has been working on Social Justice for most of her life with national and international projects.Her main focus has been empowering women through economic opportunities as well as through workshops addressing social and trauma-informed principles specific to their location.Working with foreign-born survivors of human trafficking, immigrants, and incarcerated women in the San Francisco Bay Area has made her focus her energy on systems of oppression, mental health, and trauma-informed practices (TIPs).In a landscape that seems to be lacking resources for mental health support, Vanessa recognizes the importance of team and community building and is focused on developing stronger relationships with other service providers in the East Bay, in particular with grassroots organizations, while highlighting the importance of Comunity Based Organizations. Her experience working with many of them has consistently proven the importance of a culturally appropriate lens, in order to holistically serve those who need more support in times of crisis. Her work has been informed by the many post-graduate trainings done addressing modalities to heal trauma. She holds a certification in trauma-sensitive yoga (TCTSY), ACEs awareness, restorative practices, and other somatic modalities while adapting these methodologies for Latina/o cohorts.She believes trusting relationships take time to forge and time to maintain, nothing can be done swiftly but with intention and patience.
