As an aspiring scientist, my ambition is to commercialise my research and technical experience to play a role in innovating solutions that can positively impact people and healthcare. I stress the importance of communicating these solutions transparently to stakeholders and wish to be this bridge between the scientific community and the public. Phd Candidate
Apac Consumer Science
I worked within the GSK Consumer Health R&D department and directly supported the Consumer Sciences and Product Understanding (CSPU) APAC Lead.I had three primary job roles which included 1) generating in-depth analysis on market and product trends, 2) preparing, designing, and executing quantitative and qualitative consumer research, 3) prepare content and contribute to insights and ideation for product innovation workshops. Apart from these main three roles, I have also supported the APAC team through contracting external vendors for studies through working with GSK procurement and legal teams. I have also worked to maintain and track changes for the newly created internal database for R&D studies.My work directly impacted consumer research and gathering of insights from various consumer studies. Furthermore, market landscape analysis reports were also utilised in various innovation workshops to support product ideation and discussions surrounding future innovation pipelines.I was awarded multiple Global Employee Recognition awards in June, September, November, and December for significant contributions towards innovation pipeline for digestive health and Bone/Joint health through strategic landscape reports, and insights analysis through consumer research. The APAC CSPU team was also awarded the R&D Winner for Consumer Preferred Solutions, and I was also awarded the Global Employee Recognition for teamwork due to my contributions to the team.
Research Assistant
As a student researcher in Prof Yoon Ho Sup's laboratory studying the characteristics of novel neuroprotective drugs as a possible therapeutic for Parkinson's Disease. Through my various attachments over the years, I have been entrusted to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team to conduct preliminary screenings of various drugs in order to test their initial efficacies for Parkinson's Disease treatment. Through this attachment, I am advancing my current technical skillsets and learning other technical skills such as performing and analysing nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) results. I have also learned to process data and to categorise data in order to pick up trends.
Visiting Researcher
As an AMGEN Scholar (Asia), I was very fortunate visit Kyoto, Japan and conduct independent research in Prof Hiroshi Kondoh's laboratory in Kyoto University Hospital. My project focused on characterising human oncogenic mutants in breast and ovarian cancer by studying the enhanced effects of phosphoglycerate mutase (PGAM). Through this research attachment, I honed technical skills in tissue culturing, immunoprecipitation, RNA extraction, RT-PCR.
Amgen Scholar
The AMGEN Scholars programme is an exclusive overseas research internship programme selecting only 15 students per region. I was part of the Amgen Scholars Programme (Asia) 2019 funded by the AMGEN Foundation. This programme is specially designed by AMGEN Foundation and Harvard University, to allow undergraduates such as myself to have the opportunity to visit a foreign country of their interest to conduct research and experience working in that country. Besides learning new research techniques and developing existing techniques, I also had the opportunity to develop scientific communication skills through poster and seminar presentations in the AMGEN Scholar Asia Symposium in Singapore.

As President of the 11th Executive Committee of the CN Yang Scholars Club, my role was to manage and oversee 8 various portfolios of the committee. These various portfolios organised wide-range of activities to engage scholars, ranging from social welfare committees, holistic development, overseas learning trips and academic outreach activities. During my term, we successfully executed various new initiatives such as the first CN Yang Scholars Club Outreach Camp, an idea suggested by the Outreach Portfolio the year before. We also managed to establish new connections and built new partnerships with various organisations such as the Defence Science Organisation (DSO) and the Centre for Strategic Infocomm Technologies (CSIT). Collateral sponsorships for the club also increased as compared to the year before through effective communication and partnerships with various organisations such as GOGOVAN. During my role as President, I have learned the importance of working as a team and managing expectations with all stakeholders involved. I have also learned the absolute importance of having foresight and make decisions not just based on short-term goals but long-term strategic goals as well. Finally, I have also developed the ability to work with short deadlines and adapt to varying situations to solve problems.
Chairperson, Cn Yang Scholars Club Convocation Dinner
As Chairperson of the CN Yang Scholars Club Convocation Dinner, I supervised and directed three committees in order to organise and execute the Convocation Dinner for Scholars in the Class of 2018. Through this role, I developed a crucial understanding of the importance of meticulous planning as well as the importance of managing expectations with all stakeholders involved. The convocation dinner was successfully organised for the very first time aboard the Royal Albatross Tall Ship in Sentosa, where the graduating batch of scholars had the opportunity to dine and celebrate their graduation aboard a Tall Ship.
Clinical Attachment
During my clinical and research attachment in Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) and Singapore National Eye Centre, my role was primarily to take part in writing a review manuscript on Sjogren's Syndrome as part of the Ocular Surface Research Group in SERI. I also had the opportunity to be Prof Louis Tong's clinical assistant, assisting him in eye clinics and simple ophthalmology procedures. We worked together with Dr Bernard Thong from Tan Tock Seng Hospital to have a rheumatology perspective when writing the review. The manuscript was published in 7 August 2017 titled: Review of Autoantigens in Sjogren’s Syndrome: an update (doi: 10.2147/JIR.S137024)
