She has a background extending from the public sector in hospitality and health care industries through in-person and online research, education, and evaluation, to the private sector of emergent micro businesses and old family firms through systems approaches. Vanessa founded caterToronto and launched in February 2014 after a year of coordinating a group of catering ventures working as “quiet operators,” social enterprises, and micro enterprises with funding support from Metcalf Foundation’s Inclusive Local Economies program. She has created strategic and fundraising relationships with community organizations, commercial kitchens, and is working on developing market opportunities for sustainability. Vanessa received her MHSc in Public Health - Health Promotion from the University of Toronto in 2006 and M.A. in the Program of Social Science – Anthropology from the University of Chicago in 2010.Along with social enterprising solutions, Vanessa works as a management consultant to deliver actionable research, product, and policy solutions.Hi!
