In this role, I connect with a variety of people of all ages in the city of Paterson, NJ to increase the community's knowledge on subjects such as the impact of substance use on the developing mind and body and HIV, AIDS, and viral hepatitis prevention.• I attend community events to further connect with the community and increase HIV and/or substance use awareness. • Facilitate focus groups with the community's youth to better understand what is occurring in their community and hear their stories.• Conduct workshops on specific substances (such as marijuana, vapes, and alcohol) and their effects on the brain and body as well as HIV and viral hepatitis education and prevention for the youth and adults. • Supervise social media posts to connect and spread substance use awareness to the youth.

In this role, I was able to aid students that are taking Research Methods for the Spring 2022 semester. Using my notes from the time I took the course, reviewing the course material, and reciting previous methods I used as a student allowed me to help the current students understand the material.• I take part in weekly staff meetings to discuss the class's progress, upcoming lectures and assignments, and any concerns. • I hold weekly office hours for 1.5 hours and provide students a safe space to express concerns and ask questions about the lessons and assignments. • I am responsible for scoring assignments.

Melinated Moms is a community-based membership for moms and women of color. We curate events that empower, motivate and cultivate our community to be better women. We strive to assist women to create their roadmap to self-sufficiency through entrepreneurship and skill-building. We are creating a community co-working space for our women while equipping them with the framework to sustain and maintain self-sufficiency.I was given the opportunity to learn more about disparities affecting women in healthcare and in the United States. As an intern, I was tasked with creating and distributing surveys to attendees of Melinated Moms Month Support Groups called Melinated Mommy Talk to increase participation as well as to improve the virtual support group. I was also given the responsibility to communicate with subscribers of Melinated Moms and attend events and discussions about women's health. •Create and analyze multiple surveys and questionnaires to better understand the attendee’s feelings towards specific events and topics of conversation.•Attend and facilitate support groups with a variety of women about different subject manner biweekly.•Initiate conversation with members and outside organizations to promote discussion of a variety of topics especially women’s health.

Holy Name Medical Center wishes to help their community become and stay healthy providing them with education, treatment, and prevention. My time at Holy Name was short, but I was able to learn a lot about how a hospital runs and the importance of all members to the hospital from the administrative department, to the doctors and nurses, to the registrators, to the maintenance department. From this experience, I learned to adapt quickly to changing procedures as well as fortify my communication skills. My role was to collect demographic and insurance information as well as collect co-payments and provide patients with accurate information about the hospital's policies surrounding COVID-19. My mentor is an amazing person who strengthened my love for research by allowing me to collect, organize, and analyze samples as part of the "Human Biome Experiment". Part of this task was to collect bacteria samples from different students and perform gram staining, PCR, and DNA extraction. As new students joined the program, I was able to teach them about these procedures. Another part of the experiment was to collect samples from pierced and un-pierced parts of the body and see the differences in bacteria. From there I would place a sample paper filled with a type of essential oil (tea tree and peppermint) and see how the bacteria would react to it. •Collected, organized, and analyzed a variety of human biome samples•Preformed gram stains, DNA extractions, PCR, and BLAST analysis•Worked and educated others on protocols and procedures•Organized and counted small sections of inventory
