About Vanessa Bográn Meling, Ed.D., M.B.A.

Vanessa Bográn Meling currently serves as the Associate Dean for Admissions, Student Success and Engagement and Assistant Professor of Research at UT Health San Antonio School of Nursing. She is responsible for all nursing admissions and student affairs including creating and maintaining an environment which emphasize evidence-based student success strategies, co-curricular programs, and the creation of new student programs to meet priorities for postsecondary access and academic success. During her tenure in the School of Nursing, she led the development of a nursing student success center offering tailored academic services with a $2.5 million US Department of Education Title V Developing Hispanic Serving Institutions grant. The Center offers programs focused on student success coaching, academic peer support programs, student leadership development, undergraduate research, and career readiness. Meling has more than twenty years of experience in Higher Education with expertise in student success initiatives, academic support for underrepresented student populations, and learning center administration at private and public institutions. Prior to coming to the School of Nursing she was Assistant Dean for Student Success at Our Lady of the Lake University, held a faculty position in the College of Business at Texas A&M University- Kingsville, and was Director of the Academic Achievement Center at LeTourneau University.Vanessa has earned various honors including the Texas A&M University System Student Recognition Award for Teaching Excellence, the UT Health San Antonio School of Nursing Rudy Gomez Staff Excellence Award and was recognized with a National Learning Center Leadership certificate. She is involved nationally as a consultant with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Holistic Admission Review in Academic Nursing under the Diversity and Inclusion consulting group.As a first generation, Latina higher education professional, Meling’s research interests and her commitment are to postsecondary access and student success at Hispanic-serving institutions. Her research agenda focuses on investigating the efficacy of academic support resources to increase student persistence and graduation among students of color. She earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership with a Higher Education concentration at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi/ Kingsville. She has an MBA from the University of Texas at Tyler and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas.
