About Vanessa Oniboni

Born in Lima, Peru and with a background in arts and social justice, Vanessa became a certified permaculture designer from the year-long Permaculture Research Institute course in 2022. Their experience has allowed them to develop a unique set of tools to create adequate ecological processes by establishing connections between elements in ecosystems and the emotional aspects of working within communities. From their participation in Crop Mob (Durham, NC) - a group of landless, wannabe farmers who came together to build and empower communities by working on land-based projects - to directing VPerú (Lima, Perú) - a week-long series of events to uplift local grassroots organisations working to stop gender violence - and co-creating together with Chi-Nations Youth Council a series of family action days in Chicago to educate families around ecology and social justice issues with a decolonial perspective, Vanessa is versatile and committed on the projects they work on.Currently they are part of Wonderland Community Project, an intentional community in McHenry, IL, working on land-based reciprocal relationships, and they are a Co-Founder and Regenerative Designer on Mycelium Co-Design.

We are a team of designers, educators and artists, offering our skills to develop a culture of symbiosis with nature that can adapt to the new reality unfolding before us.We work on a personalized basis to transform backyards, farms or community projects into living organisms that foster biodiversity and climate change resiliency. We design your project with you, creating water, energy, food and soil fertility systems side by side.We focus on co-design because we know that by training our clients to be change agents we can offer the tools and strategies needed to create human habitats that can self-sustain over time and that fit in the ever changing ecosystems. To us, our clients are part of the ecosystem and open the door to a reciprocal relationship with the site -full of opportunity to live with the purpose of generating more life. They learn to establish connections and make decisions themselves about the management of their systems so when the time to adapt comes, they’re confident and ready to do it on their own.

VPerú was the first V-Day event in Peru.In November 2010, we brought hundreds of volunteers together to reach thousands across Peru. For a full week we celebrated women in Lima with a sold out gala performance of The Vagina Monologues, 17 actresses on stage, with artistic events including seminars, concerts, dance shows, workshops, and more. We saturated the media and people listened - our online PSA has been downloaded more than 60,000 times. We talked openly about rape, gender and the forced sterilizations. We enlisted many good V-Men.By December 2011 we donated s/.5,500 ($2,000) to V-Day campaign in Congo and raised s/.50,000 ($19,600) for our first local beneficiary, RECARE, which is one of the oldest grassroots women’s anti-violence groups in Peru. We committed to a year project to support RECARE becoming self sustainable. Some highlights were: a week long textile workshop, 5 computers + basic IT workshop, design and launch their own website: www.recare.pe We developd and implemented a learning syllabus – VPeru-niversity – to empower our many dedicated volunteers – both men and women - into leaders in their communities.
