Atlanta, Georgia, Us

I am a Partner at Taylor English Duma, where I advise clients on "computer law" issues. This includes strategic patent counseling and prosecution, IP litigation, software copyright, and tech transactions/M&A. If you need someone who is comfortable with both computer code and patent claims, business plans and blockchain architectures, then I can help.I have particular expertise in the area of open source, where I have been involved since 1994. Since then I've done extensive work describing both the law and the economics of open source. I help businesses with everything from open source compliance, creating and maintaining "mixed" IP strategies, to helping with community engagement and maximizing the benefits of working with open source communities.Outside of open source, I represent companies in high-stakes IP litigation and inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. I'm well known for my strategic approach to patent litigation, diving deep into the merits of cases to establish advantages from the very start.I also represent clients in public policy and tech-focused appellate work, advancing my clients' goals before appellate courts, on Capitol Hill, and in industry associations. My ability to understand and communicate with both technical and business leaders is particularly helpful in complex, IP-heavy transactions. I've negotiated nine-figure deals, restructured, acquired, and spun off companies, and reworked employee agreements to create greater employee satisfaction while achieving higher compliance with internal policies.

Written by an intellectual property attorney who is also a programmer, Intellectual Property and Open Source delivers both an engrossing survey of the legal landscape and practical advice about situations you’re likely to encounter when working on open source projects and new business ideas. “Clear, correct, and deep, this is a welcome addition to discussions of law and computing for anyone—even lawyers!”— Lawrence Lessig, professor of law at Stanford Law School and founder of the Stanford Center for Internet and Society
