  • Bmo Capital Markets
    Development Architect/Manager (Contract)
Bmo Capital Markets Mar 2010 - Sep 2010
    Toronto, On, Ca
My tenure with BMO started my career in Capital Markets after 3 years of experience in personal/commercial banking at Symcor. The contract nature of the tenure gave me the pragmatic experience in terms of customer-centric or customer-focus approach to IT Services.Architected an inter-application service and multi-vendor technology integration to achieve capital markets capability transformation goals. The service implementation realized the coherent information flow among heterogeneous platforms for sale/distribution, counter-party relationship, underwriting, liquidity channel, trading, settlement/clearance, enterprise accounting, market risk, strategic analytics, and regulatory compliance.Provided US Fix Income integration solution on the Trading and Settlement/Clearing platforms, Bloomberg/TOMS and Broadridge/Impact respectively, with the BMO IT operations, by way of combining a MEP (Message Exchange Pattern) framework with the JPA (Java Persistence API) and the Spring DI (Dependency Injection) container platform.
  • Symcor
    Software Architect/P.Eng.
    Symcor Mar 2006 - Oct 2009
    Mississauga, Ontario, Ca
My tenure with Symcor came with the pressure of high performance computing architecture. Surprisingly, I only learnt later that what I have implemented using GRID computing at Symcor was very much similar to Google's "MapReduce" concept.Implemented a highly scalable and distributed application running on the GRID platform and supporting a HPC (High Performance Computing foundation at Symcor IT Services, as well as the JBI-based integration of HPC with open source JGROUPS, CDI (Contexts & Dependency Injection) container and ESB (Enterprise Service Bus).Architected and built sophisticated imaging and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) applications using the HPC foundation. The applications facilitated various delivery digital channels and service offerings to major FI (financial institutions) in North America. Solutions included duplicate item detection, fraudulent checks identification, item data-to-image misalignment identification. The processing volume capacity attained tens of millions of the nightly item data feeds sourced from the FIs.Applied virtual data decentralization techniques, similar to "MapReduce" concept to minimize movement of bulky data and to maximize up- and out-scalability, harnessing the effectiveness of distributed processing power of GRID computing infrastructure.Collaborated closely with project management in implementation strategy, work breakdown structure, and task estimation. Support project management in project planning, execution, project control, and monitoring.
  • One King West Hotel & Residence
    Residence Investor
One King West Hotel & Residence Jun 2005 - May 2008
    Toronto, On, Ca
My volunteer work asserted the Internet's collaboration technology's emergence as Google started to provide free enterprise-level internet-based collaboration platform. It is also within this period that I proactively researched on architecture frameworks and set my goal to TOGAF version 9 certification.Helped organize and setup a free enterprise-level Google Group (Now morphed into Google for Work), private online collaborative forum, for inter-owners or local/remote investors communication. The free Google cloud forum enabled pre-construction condo purchasers to get to know one another electronically and remotely. The forum was one of the earliest ideas in tapping into the application of Internet cloud technologies to effectively form an condominium e-community right from the very early stage of the purchase phase. It greatly facilitated all purchasers in staying abreast with the condo developer and the status of development, and the transitioning over to the condo closing and the formation of the condo board. And even went all the way to the post-closing condo operational phase. The flip side of the effect was to keep condo developer honest and transparent to condo buyers in meeting their mutual obligations.
  • Teranet Inc.
    Solutions Architect/P.Eng.
    Teranet Inc. Nov 1999 - Sep 2005
    Toronto, Ontario, Ca
My tenure with Teranet put me in the role at an extended enterprise level, i.e., unifying the various government, business and consumer sectors associated with property ownership with the emerging JEE technology. It is also when the realization of the power of expressiveness of UML - a modelling language that commercialized RUP process (Rational Software). In addition, my works helped me became ITSM certified.Built consensus among stakeholders, including those from the Ministry of Government Services, on the Land Registration System Requirements. Ensured requirement specifications are in full compliance with the Registry Act and the Land Titles Act of the province of Ontario.Collaborated with peer architects to design the architecture for a JEE core Unity(TM) e-service framework based on the requirements, and subsequently supported Project Management Office in the execution of the framework implementation and provided developer mentoring and guidance. The Unity(TM) framework is a Government-Business-Consumer enterprise integration pattern that realizes the information flow among consumers, service agents, government services, legal/paralegal services, financial services, enforcement services, etc. Reused the framework to build the Electronic Land Registration web service interface as a transition architecture for the eventual migration of the new Land Titles Act-based ELRS system in place of the legacy Registry Act-based system.Performed single-point-of-failure and gap analyses and a high availability/resiliency audit on the existing PKI-based Remote Electronic Land Registration front end application service used by real estate lawyers and paralegals in Ontario.Helped prepare and review the company's Development unit's Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SRED) merits, in terms of technological advancements, uncertainties, and risks, for a successful tax claims.

  • Bell Canada
    Systems Analyst/P.Eng.
    Bell Canada Nov 1989 - Jul 1997
    Montreal, Quebec, Ca
My tenure with the Bell Canada companies became a solid career pillar in relational database and distributed computing platform technologies. It also gave me a solid foundation is C/C++ and SQL programming and programmer analyst and project lead experience. As a Bell Telic systems (later became IIS Technologies) analyst in the Cost Center Control Management Information System project, my role included the development of C and embedded SQL applications to collect and transform cost data from tapes for centralization into a large relational database running on a cluster technology infrastructure used for decision support, reporting, and other accounting purposes. As consultant at IIS Technologies (later became Bell Sygma Solutions) , my role included the provisioning of services to Northwestel at Whitehorse, encompassing the analysis, design and implementation of a telephone toll collection, account management, and billing system which brought me face-to-face with various performance challenges inherent in a centralized computing model - a complex application that inter-works with a large centralized relational database. In contrast, my subsequent assignment at Bell Sygma Telecom Solutions in the implementation of a distributed work force system that employed cellular wireless network, hand-held and asynchronous messaging technologies proved the effectiveness of the distributed computing model, as well as the robustness and endurability of the Sun Microsystems' SPARC platform, among the not so stable distributed platforms available at the time. While at Bell Canada companies, I also successfully acquired my Professional Engineer designation under PEO in March, 1996, after fulfilling the 4-year engineering experience requirement and passing the PEO exam.
