Graduate Student Research AssistantUniversity Of Colorado Boulder Jun 2014 - Dec 2017Boulder, CoIn the first year of graduate school, I was a bench scientist involved in the planning and execution of experiments to investigate secreted proteins in Salmonella using fluorescent microscopy. I proposed a novel research plan that married my experience in bioorthogonal chemistry to find secreted RNA in bacteria and was awarded National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship. In my project, there was a pressing need to automate an analysis that took a lot of labor and time. I learned python, R, and Matlab and developed an automated analysis pipeline to process images and videos acquired for the experiment. This pipeline formed the foundation of my master's thesis. Through these experiences, I learned that I love software development and wrangling big, sometimes noisy datasets in pursuit of the research question. -
