A Registered Nurse for 10 going on 11 years. In that time, I have grown into what is defined as a great nurse. In my last position, nurses work alongside with doctors, other nurses, patient care associates, physical therapists, social workers, case management, and many other departments to coordinate patient care. I was an integral part of an interdisciplinary team. Being the voice of my patients during their most vulnerable time, advocating for their needs and health concerns is the reason I became a nurse. I currently work for Wakemed Hospital, a Magnet Hospital, and teaching Hospital. I am a Certified Wound Ostomy Nursing. I assess, manage wound and Ostomies. As well as educate our patients, family and staff on care of wounds and ostomies. I have created in-services to better educate our staff. Worked alongside the patients, family, Nursing, Doctors, Case Managers, Social Workers, and Physical Therapy as an Interdisciplinary team to best serve the patient. As member of the Clinical Nurse Council I am able to have a voice in a way to better serve or Staff, and patients. Previously acquired a position in a teaching facility like Long Island Jewish Medical Center part of Northwell Health was imperative to my growth as a Registered Nurse. Being able to easily and quickly learn new skills and evidence based practice. I am able to assimilate and re-teach what was taught to patients, families, and other employees. In my time at LIJ not only have I been requested to teach new nursing students but orient seasoned nurse as well in the proper manner to perform task according to policy and evidence based practices. With great pleasure and compassion I mentored many nurses in my career becoming one of my proudest achievement having a hand in the growth of my fellow colleagues.
