In June, 2015, we started walking on a path of Shopify Apps Development. It was not a well-traveled road and hence, resources were nil! In Kota, a 3rd tier city - what wasn't?This is my journey so far as a CTO:- This needed a hands-on approach!- Developed Framework for Shopify App Development - In PHP.- Hired Engineers (Degree holders) and taught them PHP.- Converted pieces of codes in Node.- Hired a self-taught Node Developer without a Degree.- Hired Engineers (Degree holders) and taught them Node.- Hand over various problems of PHP to LUA (OpenResty)- Hired PHP and Node Developers - These were self-taught and excellent!- Resolved various MySQL-related issues. - Hired MySQL Consultant.- Hired Engineers and now they are MySQL Developers.- Further converted - Moved some pieces of codes in Go. - Scaled apps to 2000 hits per second now - which includes database query as well.- Engineers are now Team Leads.- Hired More Developers and Put them under Team leads.As Founders (Me and Ankit), we are trying to make our company a good place to work. So far, we have done the following:- Working Hours are 7.5 hours.- There is a 5-days work week.- Payscale has been upgraded 3 times in the past 5 years.- We are having teaching focus leadership.

Every microsecond count - when your app is installed by thousands of stores. Imagine a black Friday deal giving about 600 hooks per seconds. This is what we deal here!My responsibility is to make sure we win in technology. I helped setting up the company's foundation by creating 5 Shopify applications installed by more than 2000 stores. I was the only one who coded a framework to communicate with Shopify which automatically takes care of Shopify limits and load balancing issues. I only worked in Backend because it was the most exciting thing to do! Each app had its' technical challenges overlapping just the communication part with Shopify. Luckily (or unluckily) it was a progressive problem. Thus, I had an opportunity to resolve everything by myself, and I LOVED IT!Later, I started hiring freelancers. My responsibilities then shifted to manage freelancers who would just ensure that everything is going great and make few changes to the app. Now we have a team who is working on more exciting projects under my watch!Worth mentioning "One Man Army" contributions:A framework that renders YML (Plain English) to interact with ShopifyA custom queue to dismiss similar webhooks by ShopifyAn Algo to handle webhooks 700% more efficient than default FIFO.Little about our tech-stack: We like to solve things with whatever tools possible and thus you will see a lot of things are used - ansible, php, laravel, mysql, maxscale, proxysql, redis, twemproxy, golang, iris, node, express, docker, prometheus, grafana etc. Thus, this is the company where you will become a true technocrat.

I implemented m.naukri.com - a mobile version of Naukri using Yahoo Blueprints. This was the start of mobile apps. Later I was shifted to a mode "fix everything worth fixing" As a result I fixed a vulnerability allowing to send unlimited mobile SMS from download on mobile link, wrote an efficient script which would read GBs of log every day and find out potential data unwanted crawlers and block their IPs.
