As the Country Manager, Varun’s main responsibilities were to develop the Strategic Road Map for Sri Lanka & Maldives. Whilst heading a team of over 120 employees working for Johnson & Johnson Sri Lanka, he is directly responsible for achieving the top line and bottom line objectives of J&J in Sri Lanka and Maldives.

As the Group Product Manager, Varun formulated and implemented a Recruitment & Retention strategy and developed insights resulting in four new marketing campaigns for Johnson’s Baby. During this period, the competitive Toilet Soap and Talcum powder category achieved the highest ever market share gain. He also played the role of a Project Manager driving cross functional teams to deliver eight new consumer offers in Johnson’ s Baby. He collaborated with RSPO and placed the GREENPALM logo on JOHNSON'S baby soap to support production of sustainable palm oil thereby helping in promoting bio diversity and protecting environment.

During this period Varun handled the Wholesale channel and Cash & Carry channels like the Walmart, Metro, Carrefour for J&J India. This also included conceptualizing and implementing an “In Market excellence” program in Wholesale markets in all states across India. Varun also launched a loyalty program across primary, secondary and tertiary towns.

Varun gained experience in handling sales & promotions in the 2nd largest contributing state Maharashtra in India. Varun was the Administrative head and was conferred with Power of Attorney, responsible for sales, logistics, accounts, finance and implementation of audit systems. The Market share of Santoor Soap in Maharashtra was further enhanced during this period. For the first time, a figure of 21% (ORG Marg - for Q2 2007) was achieved. He also commissioned the Tobacco distribution channel and achieved a direct coverage of 2000 + population towns through ready stock vans.
