About Varun Upneja

Associate | Sidley Austin LLP Hey y'all, my name is Varun and I am a third-year associate with Sidley Austin in our Securities Enforcement & Regulatory practice group. My passion for securities work was spurred while studying securities law in law school, as well as during my experiences with the SEC and in private practice, where I developed an interest in guiding broker-dealers through regulatory hurdles and helping resolve enforcement actions. In addition to my position as an attorney here, I have taken an active leadership role for our ASPIRE@Sidley committee as Chair of Community Development to promote retention and recruiting efforts for API attorneys at Sidley Austin.While attending Boston College Law School, I took service as a priority and was elected Vice President for our Law Student Association (LSA) and further participated as a spirited member in our Business Law Society, South Asian LSA, and First Generation Professionals. In these positions, I placed an emphasis on transparency and inclusion, in addition to bringing an objective-focused and collaborative approach to the table. Earlier, during my time at The University of Texas, I served as a policy aide in both, the United States Senate and Texas Senate, focusing on regulatory reform and constituent casework. Outside of work, you'll find me hitting on a tennis court, trying a new restaurant, watching the Longhorns play, or chasing Cloud (my 95lb Great Pyrenees) around back home! Hook 'Em Horns!
