Currently heading a start-up that aims to ‘bridge the technology gap in agriculture that is critical to the viability and sustainability of the farmer’.After four years as an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin – Superior following a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering (India) and master’s in business (USA), the focus has all been IT and engineering services for manufacturing companies. This career has spanned three phases with the IT department of a manufacturing company (4 years) being the first. The second was the start-up and scaling of a captive IT and engineering services team in India for the parent company (6 years). And the third, converting the team into a professional IT and engineering services company and growing it organically and through acquisitions (15 years).The tilt to agriculture and agri-tech started with Bourgault in 2016. While IT was the initial focus, it evolved to understanding the agri-tech ecosystem and agricultural best practices in Canada and India to determine what technologies and best practices will significantly impact farmers in India and other emerging markets. This, in turn, led to the start-up of Emergent Gateway Agri-Tech and the exclusive distribution agreement with Meridian Manufacturing Inc. of Manitoba, Canada covering India and Ethiopia.
