I graduated from UC Berkeley during the spring semester 2024 with university and department honors. My undergraduate focus at the UC Berkeley Department of History was 19th and 20th century Ottoman Empire. I engaged in examining the Greek Orthodox communities of the empire and their relation to the modern state of Greece after 1821 as well as their relationship to the modern Turkish state in 1923. I also worked on a year-long senior thesis that relied heavily on my background in Ottoman history. My thesis focused on how the career of Patriarch Athenagoras I’s tenure as the Archbishop of North and South America impacted how the Greek immigrant communities in the United States reorganized themselves in the early 20th century.

As a Volunteer Student Research assistant for the Istanpolis Collaborative’s “Mapping the Syllogos” project, I conducted in-depth, historical research on the Syllogos Convention, analyzed primary and secondary sources related to the convention by using online archives such as Hathi-Trust. I analyzed data within context to discover key trends within the context of the Syllogos and general trends within Ottoman Greek history in the 19th century. I had developed and maintained a detailed database of primary and secondary sources related to the conventions, facilitating future research initiatives. I also presented findings to core research heads and fellow researchers and frequently collaborated with them.
