•Shopping for ~300 campers, ages 6-16, & 200 staff members of Vega•Good communicator: As a camp counselors I have to be able to communicate well with children, parents, co-workers, & superiors. Parents only have a few minutes to speak to the counselors & feel confident in them before they leave their child for two months. If a child is sick or homesick I call the parent to update them on the situation & ensure them their child is safe & in good care. As a shopper/driver I was in constant communicate with the staff members, campers, & my superiors to ensure that all the camps' needs were being met through my purchases that were often complicated & required creative thinking to solve challenging problems.•Excellent with the public: interacted professionally daily with parents, camp inspectors, donors, shop owners, doctors, & others•Selfless: putting the needs & desires others before my own•A life-long learner: In a camp setting, much like life, I learned that to be successful I need to have an "I want to learn more” attitude as there is always a lot to learn, not only about camp & their campers but also about myself. •A self-starter: I was the are the “go-to” person for campers & staff. If a camper forgets something it's my responsibility to get them a replacement. If a staff member needs something for a project or a administrator needs something to make the camp run it's up to me to find it for them. •A resilient individual: Camp counselors can handle anything. I was helping a camper overcome homesickness while teaching my activity in the rain for 4 days straight, only to learn that there is a child in my cabin with lice. There is no choice, but to grab gloves & step up. •A problem solver: At camp we try to keep things very scheduled & organized, but plans can unexpectedly change. For example, 500 campers & staff are ready & waiting in the field house to play capture the flag when there is a loud burst of thunder & you have to come up with a new plan instantly

Must be able to come up with new plans immediately.•A detail-oriented worker: Each & every detail is unbelievably important. For example, is a child eating at mealtime, drinking enough water, making new friends, did they skin their knee, play soccer, do they miss their families, have wet shoes, lose their sweatshirt, etc.? Now multiply this by a whole cabin of campers. As a shopper/driver the staff members relied on me in much the same way. If I couldn't find what they needed for an activity I had to come up with a creative solution to the problem in order to improvise. All the details had to be accounted for.•A leader: I became my camper's biggest role model. They watched my every move. As a leader I fully embraced the challenge of changing conditions, always look for new avenues for success, & was nimble enough to do what was necessary to engage the campers. I was a teacher, coach, facilitator, & mentor. I gave guidance & encouragement & always took advantage of opportunities to share my knowledge with others. I was responsible to help others learn life lessons, do new activities, & experience new people, places, & things.•A team player: I learned that I cannot do it all on my own. The best products are created through teamwork. I was inclusive & recognized the strengths & talents of each individual, & encouraged passionate participation to drive collective success.
