Research Scientist - Agroecological Modeller

Current

Harpenden, England, United Kingdom

Jul 2020 - Present

Post-Doctoral Research Scientist

Harpenden, Uk

I work developing epidemiological models for the monitoring, sampling and control of crops, plants and tree diseases.

Research Visitor

As a research visitor at the Centre for Biological Sciences of the University of Southampton, I work developing and testing ecological models. I am currently working on the modelling of artificial ecosystems via numerical simulations to understand the impact of feeble and week species (that we denominate "canary species") on ecosystem population dynamics.

Feb 2013 - Sep 2013

Post-Doctoral Researcher

Southampton, United Kingdom

I am working in a project hat aims to identify sensitive species in a healthy working ecosystem. These sensitive species have the characteristic of being of little impact for the ecosystem functioning. By identifying changes in the dynamics of these species we aim to identify stressors that may lead to transitions and/or early warnings potentially leading to ecosystem collapse. Early signals of potential damage in ecosystems may help to prevent catastriphic events at very early stages.

My research is based on the use of partial differential equations (PDE's) to model the movement and dispersal of populations in inhomogeneous environments. Our models take into account biological behaviour given by growth and death rates, behavioural factors and dispersal rates. The aim of these models is to provide a general idea of animal movement on these type of environments. These general models, then may provide control strategies for invasive species, or to give insight for plausible… Show more My research is based on the use of partial differential equations (PDE's) to model the movement and dispersal of populations in inhomogeneous environments. Lecturer

Mexico City Area, Mexico

As a lecturer in the Universidad Iberoamericana, I was in full charge of the courses I taught. I would give all the lectures; develop all the material, coursework and exams. The first subject I taught was “Electromagnetism and Optics” given to students doing a number of engineering courses (civil, environmental and mechanical). The second course I had to teach was “Fundaments of Mathematics” to students studying social sciences.
