About Vasudharani Devanathan

Cell biologist (Neurobiologist) by research training with 15 years of experience in academic research laboratories and 2 years of industrial experience.Post my master's degree in microbiology - moved to Astra Zeneca India. One of the fast young researcher to acquire BSL 3 skills and started working with M.Tb (H37Rv) in BSL-3. During this time I was a recipient of team awards for compound screening. After two years of excellent learning and working at AZ, moved for PhD to ZMNH, Hamburg. My thirst for learning more and particularly cellular and biochemical sciences triggered me to chose neurobiology research. Here I worked with excellent team of scientists from various parts of the globe (name any country- we had someone in the lab at sometime!!). This was a wow experience for me. Post PhD, moved to Duesseldorf and Tuebingen for postdoctoral research. June 2012, returned to India and was engaged with IMSc and MS University, Baroda for short time. Since 2015, faculty at IISER Tirupati. Here I hold several roles:Chair, Student activities - 2016-2021Associate Dean (Student's) - Jan 2022-currently (Enjoy working with students in several occasions and interface !)Member - Innovation CouncilMember - IISER Tirupati SenateMember - Veekshana, Women forum at IISER TMember of Board of Studies - Blended B.Sc Program (Melbourne University and PVKN college)About the research lab:Research aims to address neuronal response to metabolic stress. My lab at IISER Tirupati is made of super enthusiastic, motivated young researchers - Doctoral Students, Project students, Post doctoral researchers. Doctoral students are all holders of UGC, CSIR or Inspire Fellowship, additionally one student holds DAAD fellowship. Post docs are funded by DST NPDF and DST WOS-A. The lab is funded by IISER Tirupati intra mural funds and DST.
