TA: ONCOLOGY; GENE THERAPY; RARE DISEASES; AGINGProjects: pre-clinical in vitro studies to: (1) Find biomarkers for chemotherapy response and patient stratification.(2) Test the anti-cancer efficiency of a combinatorial therapy with chemotherapeutic drugs (Paclitaxel, S-trityl-L-cysteine) and Gene Therapy / Editing (with viral delivery of CRISPR/Cas9) in untransformed, HR+/HER2- and triple negative breast cancer cell models.(3) Test gene editing as therapy to ameliorate the Rare Disease Hutchison-Gilford Progeria Syndrome phenotypes.-Lead a biomedical project during 5y with with limited supervision.-Collaborated with international researchers from the USA, Poland, Armenia, Israel and Netherlands. The internship intended at elucidating the crosstalk between cancer associated fibroblasts and lung tumor cells.-Performed both cell culture and co-culture of lung cancer cells and cancer associated fibroblasts.-Executed Immunofluorescence and Western Blot analysis. -Analyzed and presented data.

-Executed and presented a literature review of the clinical and molecular features of EGFR and EML4-ALK gene mutations in NSCLC precision medicine.-Accompanied the institute’s routine work on NSCLC mutation diagnosis (Immunohistochemistry, Fluorescence in-situ hybridization, Real Time-PCR).

The internship aimed at improving the information on the spectrum of HPV types in the population of São Tomé and Príncipe.-Handled cervix biological samples.-Performed DNA extraction, Multiplex-PCR and ran electrophoresis.-Analyzed data and wrote reports.-Accompanied the company’s routine diagnosis work.
