I am passionate about wildlife and how they interact with other species and their environment. I love combining applied animal behavior analysis with wildlife management tools to generate new ways of blending human and wildlife coexistence.Beyond my passion, I am an experienced wildlife biologist with expertise in ecology, land use planning, wildlife behavior, and anthropogenic impacts. My field experience includes wildlife surveys, habitat assessments, planning, and vegetation mapping. I have proven capabilities in threatened and endangered species management, construction and revegetation monitoring, nest-searching, and bird-banding. While working for Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, I lead the agency's implementation of their Habitat Conservation Plan for Western Snowy Plover. As part of that effort, I developed a community science program to monitor snowy plovers; established partnerships with communities, non-profit groups, and other agencies; planned and implemented coastal dune habitat restoration; and managed contracts for snowy plover population management. My work at OPRD allowed me to develop a strong sense of teamwork among our natural and cultural resources staff, and to extend that teamwork outward to park staff and visitors. I also worked with park staff to reduce negative human-wildlife conflicts, increase positive human-wildlife interactions, and plan and implement projects to minimize negative wildlife impacts. As a lead biologist, I have managed projects from start to finish, scheduled staff, generated cost assessments and budgets. I have designed and organized customized data acquisition and database management for individual projects as well as agency-wide datasets. I have experience in a variety of habitats across the United States, including coastal dunes, coastal sage scrub, cismontane chaparral, montane riparian and mixed coniferous forests, and deciduous forests. I have provided outreach and instruction on ecology, avian conservation, and general biology to the public and academic settings, as well as developed a workshop/webinar series on western snowy plover surveys and nest monitoring.Personal Notes: I live with two malamutes, two parrots, and a partner (Marc). My malamutes dryland mush with me, and we have a few dog sports titles. The parrots enjoy supervising my home office and demanding almonds while I'm in Zoom meetings. The partner and I play RPGs, speculate on how we would survive a zombie apocalypse, and binge-watch anime during western Oregon rains.
