I completed their unique interior decoration in order to create a point of difference against the competition. One listing, “The Scientist’s Studio” became one of Melbourne’s most wishlisted properties. Over the years I have continuously improved the listings so as to run with very little input from myself. I expanded my business and became a property manager for other property owners, managing another 3 properties prior to the arrival of the pandemic.With the arrival of Covid-19 I ceased managing other properties and hunkered down, managing to keep my own properties accepting guests when government regulations allowed. But it was tough, and after 2 years of hard slog, and the arrival of my son, I decided to wind down my involvement, outsource the management and use my time to help out my in father’s business and spend some quality time with my family.

Not so much a role, as a hobby and a passion. In November 2017 I started a thread named "Alternative Metrics" on the Afterpay page of the popular investing forum "Hot Copper". https://hotcopper.com.au/threads/alternative-metrics.3841385/From this first post a journey began, where I built spent an inordinate amount of time researching the company and the merchants it was partnering with as it grew in Australia, New Zealand, then the US and the UK. It became a big part of my life and led to many great conversations and interactions with other investors, culminating in the opportunity to have a one on one lunch with the companies founder in December 2019. That original thread led to over 4,000 comments and over 2.5 million views, making it one of the most important and rational threads on the company. Over my time involved in this I built data collection, analysis and visualisation tools which I used to share my work in the forum and on Twitter. It was a great time, and I loved sharing the information I collected freely with those around me. This was an immersive experience for me, and one I'll look fondly on as I could apply and build on my analysis and visualisation skills in my own time.

Began with a fledgling idea, and launched a "start up" providing Airbnb hosts with analysis and insights into their listings in order to improve their earnings, and/or reduce their workloads. The idea was not pursued further after initial development as the expected financial return was lower than what I'd achieve completing other analysis (see Afterpay Analyst experience).
