Biswas Dhakal started F1Soft with the vision to exploit the optimal benefits of IT in a country like Nepal so as to cater not only those in the cities but also those from the rural communities who do not have access to banks. With such a vision in place, Biswas works ardently to put his ideas into practice. His journey begins in 2004 when he founded F1Soft. Being understaffed and due to limited funds, the company’s initial services were limited to domain registration and hosting.The hard work, dedication and determination Biswas and his team put into innovation finally seemed to strike the right chord in 2006. This was a time when major banks in Nepal were starting to realize the importance of integrating technology in their processes and the penetration of mobile phones in Nepal was increasing at a rapid rate. Seeing the opportunity created by this scenario, F1Soft launched ‘SMS Banking’, their first product and were able to convince some leading banks to use it. This technology was quick to win hearts in the financial sector as it “brought the bank to the people’s pockets” and thousands were able to perform simple banking activities using their mobile phones thus saving cost and time.After this, there was no turning back. In 2009 F1Soft launched mobile banking. At present, his company leads the way with almost 90% of Nepal’s banks using at least one of F1Soft’s solutions. 2009 also marked the birth of eSewa; another of Biswas’ brainchild. eSewa was born out of the necessity to provide online payment services to the banked as well as the unbanked populace and to connect individual banks to a shared and interoperable ecosystem. eSewa is currently used by around 5 million people and is Nepal’s first and leading online payment gateway with an integrated digital wallet. Today, Biswas and his team continue to break new grounds with innovative mobile apps and mobile financial solutions aimed at making lives of people that much easier.
