At Agroscope, I am leading projects and contributing to the activities of the Life-Cycle Assessment Research Group towards developing innovative methods, tools and models for sustainability assessment of food systems.

At WSL, I am contributing to projects delivering concepts and tools for envisioning and assessing transformative pathways of sustainable agriculture and food value chains in Europe.

At Agroscope, I am finalising the remaining activities for the SIPATH project:- land change scenarios for fulfilling multiple demands and sustainability targets in the European agricultural sector: food production, carbon sequestration, nature restoration, and reduction of nitrogen emissions.- assessing trade-offs of ecosystem service provision of alternative land change scenarios in Europe: carbon sequestration, agrobiodiversity, pollination, flood regulation, soil erosion, nitrogen runoff, cultural heritage.

At WEcR, I acquired, led and executed several research and consultancy projects, most of them for the development of decision-support tools commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Nature.

At EC-JRC, I was part of the team developing and implementing the Land Use Integrated Sustainability Assessment (LUISA) modelling platform. LUISA produces sustainability indicators at multiple scales for the assessment of EU policies with a territorial impact. These analyses aim to inform and support policy-making processes at the European Commission.

At VU Amsterdam, I contributed to the Climate Changes Spatial Planning and the Knowledge for Climate research programmes (both funded by the Dutch government), by developing innovative interdisciplinary concepts, methods and analytical/modelling tools for:- modelling land-use change under alternative policies and climate change scenarios - spatial cost-benefit analysis of land use and energy production- assessing the potential for sustainable bioenergy production avoiding indirect land-use change- assessing the feasibility of climate change adaptation and mitigation in rural and urban areasIn addition, I acquired and executed several consultancy assignments, in which I applied the concepts and tools developed through my PhD research. These projects dealt with informing strategies and investments for climate change adaptation and mitigation, deployment of renewable energy, and sustainable agro-forestry management.I have been also involved in several educational activities, such as:- coordination and lecturing the course Imaging the Earth Surface (MSc. Earth Science and Economics)- lecturing and tutorial supervision in the courses Land Use Change, and Geodata (BSc. Nationale GI minor).- supervision of BSc. thesis and research projects

During my MSc studies, I worked part-time as a research assistant at the SPINlab - Spatial Information Laboratory. The following research topics were covered:- land-use change analysis with GIS;- statistical analysis of geospatial driving forces of land-use change;- calibration and validation of land-use modelling tools.

I was invited by the Centre For Regional and Rural Futures (CeRRF) of Deakin University to give advice and guidance on the following activities:- setting up a conceptual research framework to devise development strategies for rural regions based on agricultural production- implementing conceptual frameworks and methods to be applied on the economic assessment of alternative strategies for climate change adaptation in agricultural areas in Victoria, Australia;- implementing methods for planning blue-green infrastructure development at the regional level in Victoria, Australia;- developing educational material on land-use modelling, to be included in the forthcoming MSc. program on Sustainable Regional Development.

I was invited by the Department of Infrastructure Engineering to give advice on the implementation of conceptual frameworks and methods to be applied in local projects covering the following topics:- assessing the economic performance of agricultural production systems- economic assessment of alternative strategies for climate change adaptation in agricultural areas- assessing the economic performance of bioenergy crops at the local and regional level- planning for blue-green infrastructure development at the regional level in the Gippsland Region, Victoria, Australia

During my internship at INTA, I conducted research for my master thesis, as part of the Targeted Research Project: Global Assessments and Guidelines for Sustainable Liquid Biofuels Production in Developing Countries (funded by GEF, UNEP, FAO and UNIDO). My thesis contributed to the project's final report "Impacts of Biofuel Production - Case Studies: Mozambique, Argentina and Ukraine".

Main topics:- added value of geo-information in disaster management (evidences from the Netherlands and Portugal);- geospatial data sharing via open web services, using the standards from Open Geospatial Consortium.
