With years spent working in clinical pharmacology, I have dedicated my career to optimizing medicines safety and efficacy, ensuring patient welfare, and advancing the field in Croatia. My early professional path was significantly shaped by wartime conditions in Croatia. These circumstances presented unique opportunities, allowing me, even as a medical student, to participate in collaborative projects with global organizations like the UNHCR, UNICEF and WHO, on ensuring health and safety in diverse scenarios, from refugee health and nutritional statuses in war-affected areas to raising landmine awareness. After graduation, I joined a Contract Research Organization, gaining experience on all phases of clinical research, from study design to data analysis and pharmacovigilance. This experience made me passionate about clinical pharmacology. Following my residency, I became part of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at the University Hospital Centre Zagreb. As a consultant clinical pharmacologist at Croatia’s largest teaching hospital, a member of its Drug Committee, and holding an academic role at the Medical Schools in Zagreb and Rijeka, I am deeply involved in diverse aspects of patient care, clinical and academic research, mentoring, education, and policymaking. As a clinician, my experience with patients in diverse settings, from the outpatient clinic to the emergency room, and with notable experience during the COVID-19 pandemics, has highlighted the critical importance of vigilant drug prescription monitoring and adherence to safety practices. Academically, I teach medical, pharmacy, and nursing students, covering a spectrum of topics from clinical pharmacology and pharmacovigilance to medical biostatistics, and lead or actively participate in academic research initiatives. As an external expert, I collaborate with the Croatian Agency for Medicinal Products and Medical Devices (Committee for the Safe Use of Medicines, Scientific Advice Office). My experience also spans membership in several national drug committees and the Central Ethics Committee. Additionally, I offer specialized clinical pharmacology consultancy, advise on product strategies, and provide in-depth training on clinical pharmacology topics for the public and pharmaceutical sector. In a field as dynamic as clinical pharmacology, I prioritize continuous learning, staying updated with the latest research, and always placing patient well-being at the heart of every decision.Outside of the professional sphere, I am passionate about running, hiking and landscape photography.
