Producer gas obtained from a gasifier (here, a downdraft gasifier) can be used as a viable fuel source for IC engines. However, due to large amount of pollutants flowing along with the producer gas as output, it is necessary to purify it before being fed to an IC engine. The current project is based on CFD analysis of a novel Producer gas purification system where we are trying to quantify the effect of filter properties and the inlet flow conditions on the purification process and the outlet flow properties.

A ship moving on the air-water interface generates surface waves which is a source of energy dissipation. The existing theories to fail the capture the effect of asymmetry of the ship hull, i.e. the wave drag remains same irrespective of the direction of motion. I worked on bringing the asymmetry effect into the picture by following a theoretical approach where we could eventually visualize the effect of the ship hull geometry and its speed on the wave drag encountered by the ship.

Reviewed existing wind turbine designs and based on their limitations, I along with the guidance of my mentor, devised a novel wind turbine design. A theoretical flow model was developed to analyse its performance, which came out to be better than existing wind turbine designs. A research paper has also been submitted on the same topic to Renewable Energy, Elsevier and is currently under review.

The project was based on design and fabrication of an All-Terrain-Vehicle which took part in a national level event SAE BAJA 2017. I worked with the Brake subsystems where we performed theoretical and numerical calculations to ensure desired performance of the vehicle and meet the event standards.

The project was based on designing and fabricating a novel damping system based on the Lenz law of magnetism. We used a piston with a pair of magnets attached on its head. It experienced a force opposite to its direction of motion when it was moved through a metallic cylinder due to the opposing magnetic field generated in the cylinder. The project helped in strengthening manufacturing skills at the college level with an added benefit of developing a non-contact damper system which has the prospect of longer service life as compared to conventional damper systems.

The project was based on fabricating an experimental setup for a novel Adsorption based cooling system. The setup had the capability to function by deriving energy from the waste exhaust heat of IC engines.
