In this role I was responsible for the creation and maintenance of pipeline detailed design GIS data in PODS and APDM in a versioned geodatabase SDE infrastructure. As a member of the technical advisory group I was also involved in continued development of company specific database schemas. This position involved all aspects of pipeline engineering GIS support including generation of a variety of reports, maps, and alignment sheets in addition to maintaining all alignment sheet required GIS data.Within this role I utilized python extensively for the customization or Esri software through creation of scripts and Esri toolboxes. I also utilized FME for data conversion and formatting and built customized Excel macros to facilitate data management tasks. Some use of SQL was also required.Throughout my time at UPI I occasionally acted as the GIS Team Lead which involved managing up to 7 GIS staff, leasing with engineering staff, and ensuring timely delivery of GIS products including Alignment Sheets. This role required excellent time management skills.During the last year of my employment I became heavily involved in alignment sheet generation through use of the New Century sheetcutter software. My role included sheetcutter template design, sheet generation automation, and creation of complex post processing scripts using python. This function involved working closely with GIS and engineering staff, extreme attention to detail, use of custom database views, and advanced computer knowledge such as use of batch files for automated task scheduling.I was also involved with the development and testing of several supporting GIS tools involving requirements gathering, testing of tool beta versions and writing of technical documentation. • Government Of The Northwest Territories
    Geomatics Analyst
Government Of The Northwest Territories May 2008 - Aug 2013
As the senior GIS Analyst within the Fire Sciences section, I played a key role in supporting fire operations during the active fire season and was involved in development and research initiatives aimed at enhancing fire suppression capabilities. I gained invaluable experience in emergency management working closely with senior staff to provide GIS support for active fire incidents. I was responsible for all aspects of delivering the fire suppression GIS program. This included the maintenance of GIS base data, development of templates for standard fire maps, training of regional GIS technicians, and documentation of GIS procedures. The NWT covers an area of over 1 million squared kilometres. With limited GIS Staff, I quickly realized that automation was essential to the effective delivery of an emergency services GIS program. As one of two core developers of the Spatial Precipitation and Risk Calculation System (SPARCS), a Durpal based GIS enabled content management systems I spearheaded the following modules: • automated delivery of standard fire maps, built using PHP, Geoserver, Mapserver, and PostGIS. • incorporation of MODIS data built using PHP, XML, and SQL routines, this fully automated subsystem downloaded, processed and displayed data on the main web map. • Values At Risk (VAR) Management System: This major initiative developed over two years enabled the operations group to track VAR’s across the entire forested area of the NWT through a web enabled interface with GIS capabilities. During my last two years with the GNWT I focused heavily on two research initiatives: Burn Severity and Fire Regimes. Both initiatives involved extensive GIS and Statistical Analysis. The burn severity research involved the development of a standardized change detection procedure based on existing scientific methods. The fire regime research culminated in the generation of an extensive report summarizing fire occurrence and frequency results.
